JANUARY 1, 2011… it is as if it was just yesterday, that we caught ourselves writing this date in our books, and here we are… celebrating the start of another brand new year- 2012.
Mahnn… life sometimes just flies by, isn’t it? A whole year just zipped past us < zzwwingg…!!! > And we didn’t even notice! We didn’t even shed a small light on where we are headed! Ever asked yourself -“Where did the last year go? What’s in store for me in the new year?” Why ‘celebrate’ the New Year which might even mark the beginning of a whole new series of tragic events in our lives? Why???
We have lived through 2011, witnessed the events it brought along with it. From the earthquake measuring 6.9 in Argentina - killing many on the New Year’s Eve, to the massive death and destruction caused by the tsunami in Japan, all the events serve as evidences in naming 2011 as ‘ THE YEAR OF DISASTERS’. Many dynamic leaders were assassinated, many lost their precious loved ones or committed suicide, and many more suffered miscarriages…

THE winter holidays seemed to be looming up, with schools closed and boredom ahead whilst staying at home. That’s when our weekend Islamic Group decided to conduct a youth camp. “It’s just for a day”, our teacher reminded us – but hey, even a day completely with friends and halal entertainment is a dream come true. After much waiting and anticipation, at last came the day of the camp, I did not know what to expect, after all we do not have many such girls’ camps around here. Boy, oh boy! Did we enjoy it – it was smashing!

"Whatever you do will never satisfy everyone”, so says my mother, especially when people are not very pleased with me or my work. We, human beings, are always demanding for more or for something different. There is certainly no harm in striving for more. However, the problem starts when you are not satisfied with your needs and your comforts, and you desire luxuries to make your life ‘perfect’.

Teen Perspective on Watching Television |

I’M sure everyone has questioned whether television has brought more good or harm to the society. It’s a topic tons tend to ignore. When adults see their kids in the living room watching The Little Mermaid, for example, they walk away without a second thought. But later they yell at their kids for not listening and are baffled by the blatant misbehavior. But if you take a look at what the kids were watching, you’d see that Ariel (a sixteen year-old mermaid who has a lusty crush on a human prince) is a role model for not listening to her father! Let me ask you, Do you think T.V. does more good or harm to the society?
