No buses for hundreds of students at Saud university Print E-mail

RIYADH -- Hundreds of female students of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University have not attended classes for over three weeks now due to a lack of transportation.
Two hundred buses of the university have been out of service leaving nearly 4000 students without transportation, Al-Hayat reported Monday.

The students also face the risk of being barred from examinations if their attendance falls short from the required percentage. The university has been responsible for the students' transportation for several years.

While some may have supportive families to drop them at the university, many complain that they have no guardian available to drive them to the university.
The Department of Transport in the university refuses to bear responsibility for the absentee of students, which if it did the students would have a valid excuse for their shortage of attendance.

One of the affected students wrote a letter to the director of the university demanding an end  to this "tragedy for students."
"We the students of the College of Shariah are keen to seek knowledge, but we have been restricted due to the unavailability of buses. And we have none in our families to drop us to the university. Hence we have registered for student transportation," she wrote.
"Does it make any sense that the Department of Transportation refuses the request of students on the grounds that the University is not responsibile for the problem of transportation? Is this acceptable?"

The Department of transportation is totally to blame for the absence. These students deserve buses which they would have obviously paid for. I can't imagine what kind of mentality the heads of this university have.
