In series: Stop! Do You Know About Jeddah's Poor

YIG1-m

YOUNG Initiative Group (YIG), a fantastic volunteer group in Jeddah, has been distributing at least 2,500 meals every day this Ramadan.

If reading the story on Jeddah's poor made you realize the importance of charity, then here is how you can make a difference: Take part in YIG's noble initiative!

The current Ramadan project is called Iftar Sayem II. Over seventy volunteers are involved in it. You can join and get your family involved as well, because women help in the packing, while men do the distribution. Personally taking part in such campaigns will be a totally different experience, as YIG’s purchasing manager, Durnaz Al-Bloushi, explained:

“I didn’t realize how rich I was. I have everything: amazing family, friends, job, house, delicious food, education and every basic need. However, YIG made me realize that I also had a responsibility towards the society.”

Iftar Sayem II is focusing its efforts in Al-Misfah, an extremely poor district in Jeddah.

YIG2-m“Al-Misfah neighborhood was selected because it is the poorest area in Jeddah. It has six thousand inhabitants. The sewage system is obsolete and clogged, so sewage is flowing into peoples' homes,” said Maha Taher, co-founder of YIG.

“Food is the least we can offer this neighborhood during the holy month of Ramadan,” she added.

“It seems that the poverty situation in the south and east of Jeddah has reached a critical level. We can't pretend like we don't see it anymore. We can't say there's nothing we can do. Because there is plenty we can do,” said Ali Al-Banawi, co-founder of YIG.

UPDATE: Appended below is YIG's presentation delivered last year. It's a must watch to know more about the group's activities!

May Allah accept our good deeds, alleviate the suffering of all those being tested, and guide us to be righteous. Ameen.

I just LOVE what YIG is doing, masha Allah! Though I haven't (genuinely) been able to be a part of it, I have utmost respect and appreciation for it.

Lots of du'as for the group!

MashaAllaah, BarakAllaahu feek for all their help. Is there anything similar in Riyadh? I would love to help and get my family involved in any kind of organised charitable work over here.

@Umm Eesa: There should be several charity organizations in Riyadh, just as there are in Jeddah.
They're usually called as jami'ah al-khairiyah. I'm sure you can join and contribute in their efforts insha Allah.
Let us know if you come across any and/or about charity activities there insha Allah.

@Umm Eesa: Try contacting them(Young Initiative Gropup). Last time my friend talked to them, they were willing to start similar groups in other cities, if they are volunteers. They had said they would provide all the financial needs.
