Gaddafi style da'wah: Invites attractive women to Islam Print E-mail

Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, visiting Rome for a UN summit on hunger, hired 200 young Italian women for what they thought would be a party and invited them to Islam. The women were paid up to €50 and were selected among hundreds for not wearing revealing clothes or being short.

A reporter for Italy's ANSA news agency went undercover with the women for the event Sunday evening. Journalist Paola Lo Mele said the women assembled at a hotel, where some where left behind because they were not tall enough or dressed modestly enough.

Those accepted were taken to a villa, where Gadhafi lectured them on women's rights and religion, and urged them to convert to Islam. He also distributed free copies of the Qur'an.

He told his audience how Jesus was not crucified, but "God in heaven took him." "They took someone who looked like him," the ANSA reporter quoted him.

It turns out the initiative wasn't bad. The Guardian reports that while one woman felt "offended" for Gaddafi's view of Christianity, it was a life-changing experience for at least one other woman.

"He convinced me," Rea Beko said. "I shall be converting to Islam."

I do not mean any offense. Is this a muslim belief, is this in the Quran? Or do you think this comes from the Dead Sea Scrolls/Nag Hammadi discoveries?

"He told his audience how Jesus was not crucified, but "God in heaven took him." "They took someone who looked like him," the ANSA reporter quoted him."

I find it touching that he took the time and trouble to personally invite people to Islam, but little chagrined that he just picked beautiful tall women :-)

Welcome, epona. I must agree with u on Gadhafi.. :-D

Yes, it is mentioned in the Qur'an. God saved him from any humiliation.

{And because of their (Jews) boasting, "We killed Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of God." But they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of Jesus was put over another man, and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge; they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely, they killed him not. But God raised him Jesus up unto Himself. And God is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise.} [Quran 4:157]

Muslims believe that Jesus was a mighty messenger and prophet of God, just as we believe in all prophets right from the time of Adam. All prophets brought and delivered the same principle message of worshiping One God. This was the message that Jesus too brought.
We believe in his miraculous birth and that Mary was a chaste virgin. We believe in the miracles that God gave Jesus such as healing the lepers, blind and bringing back the dead to life -- all with the permission and will of God. Every prophet was given miracles so that his nation would believe. But we do not believe in his divinity or that he was son of God. He was like others, a prophet and a messenger. God who created Adam without parents is perfectly able to create Jesus without father. Check this video -- English translation of Qur'an verses on Mary and Jesus:

The Qur'an, which was revealed to the final prophet to mankind, addresses this and a lot of other things. The Qur'an is the most protected scripture that has not changed a letter for over 1400 years and it is a source of guidance for over 1.5 billion people.
